The Role of an Ambassador

“Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s behalf, be ye reconciled to God.” II Corinthians 5:20. Just what is an ambassador?  He or she is a representative of the highest rank sent by one government or ruler to another. In other words, an ambassador lives in a foreign country and speaks and acts on behalf  of his government or ruler.  An ambassador is a messenger on a special assignment. Now God, through Apostle Paul says,  “Now ye are ambassadors.” So this is who we are.  We are citizens of another kingdom.

This world is not our home. Since we are here to represent the Kingdom of God, we must live separately.  In the natural world, ambassadors live in separate buildings called embassies. Ambassadors for Christ must live in Christ. “For in Him we live and move and have our being”, Acts 17:28a. An ambassador to the United States from another country say, Japan, must maintain contact with his home country. This is true for us who are ambassadors for Christ, we should always be talking to the head, Jehovah God, our ruler and King.  No ambassador should work alone.

In the natural government, there are clerks, secretaries, consular officers and other employees.  As ambassadors for Christ, we are never alone.  We are encamped about with angels. We help each others in the body of Christ to get the job done. What are we doing?  We are doing what ambassadors do. We are negotiating on Christ’s behalf to reconcile the world to Christ.

We are in the world, but not of the world.  We are not dependent on the world’s system to meet our needs. Wetrust the Word of God’s Kingdom to supply all of our needs according to His riches in glory through Christ Jesus.

An ambassador must obey orders from the ruler of his own country.  And this is true with us who are ambassadors for Christ.  Remember, our citizenship is in heaven according to Philippians 3:20. And when God says, “Come out from among them, and be ye separate, and touch not the unclean thing,” II Corinthians 6:17a.  That is what we will do.
